As a resident of Guilford, CT, I cherish our town as a place where children play and families gather. The proposal to open a methadone treatment clinic in this area threatens the safety and tranquility we've come to enjoy. Methadone clinics are known to attract individuals struggling with substance abuse issues which could potentially disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of our community.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that while methadone is an effective treatment for opioid addiction, it can also attract crime and other social issues if not managed properly (NIDA). We must consider these potential consequences before allowing such an establishment in our beloved town.

Moreover, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), there are already several methadone clinics within 20 miles of Guilford. This means that those who need help have access without necessitating a clinic in our central community space.
