Prevent the Disrespectful Concert on Easter Sunday in Barbados
The Issue
As deeply concerned Christians and citizens of Barbados, we've noticed a distressing increase in violence and disrespectful behavior in our society, particularly among younger generations. Our young people are no longer upholding the values we hold dear, turning towards inappropriate activities and following bad examples. The root of this problem, we firmly believe, is our steady drift away from God. This emerging societal pattern is symbolised by a planned concert this Easter Sunday, a sacred day in the Christian Church.
The concert line-up includes artists who self-identify with disconcerting, satanic pseudonyms such as 'Demon' and 'Lord Luci'. Many of these individuals have previous engagements with criminal activities. Their conduct is not only alarming but also a blatant disregard for Christian beliefs, the Church and the sanctity of Easter Sunday.
Barbados is a country known for its commitment to promoting peace and upholding social values. However, statistics have shown a concerning rise in violent crime. As stated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in 2017, Barbados had a homicide rate of 9.1 per 100,000 population, in 2024 the rate had increased to 18.1 per 100,000 population. Such figures indicate an urgent need to curb this increasing violence trend.
Allowing the planned concert to proceed is not only disrespectful to our church and its devotees, but it also stands to further encourage the negative behaviours rampant among our youths. It's time we take a stand against the erosion of our values and reclaim the reverence of our sacred observances.
'Let there Be Light Movement' implores you to join this plea to cancel the concert planned for Easter Sunday and to support actions that promote positive values in our society. Your signature could make an enormous impact on preserving the sanctity of our religious observances and curbing the burgeoning violence in Barbados. Please sign this petition.
