The Issue

For me, the Sariska Tiger Reserve is more than just a wildlife sanctuary. It's a home for tigers, a beacon of biodiversity, and a provider of balance in nature. It's personal to me as it embodies a treasured element of our natural heritage. Unfortunately, this vibrant oasis now faces a terrible plight: it's poised to be destroyed for mining projects.

The Sariska Tiger Reserve, located in Alwar district of Rajasthan, India, spans over an area of 866 km² comprising scrub-thorny arid forests, grasslands, and rocky landscapes. This sanctuary is home to numerous species, including the King of the Jungle - the tiger. As per the National Tiger Conservation Authority, there were 20 tigers in the Sariska Reserve as of 2021.

Destroying this sanctuary for mining projects does not only threaten these majestic creatures and their habitat but also jeopardizes the ecological balance we've strived for. It undermines the importance of environmental preservation that India has committed to, under various international treaties like the Convention on Biological Diversity.

If not stopped, the large scale habitat destruction consequent to this mining project could potentially lead to extinction of local tiger populations and environmental imbalances. It's not just about saving tigers, it's about preserving what's left of our precious biodiversity and ensuring sustainable development.

Let us use our voices to call upon the Government, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the National Board for Wildlife, to prevent this unethical and unsustainable use of our precious natural resources. It is time we prioritize life over profit, and conservation over exploitation. Sign this petition to ensure that the Sariska Tiger Reserve is saved from destruction.
