Prevent the Deportation of Hard-working, Long-time U.S. Residents
Prevent the Deportation of Hard-working, Long-time U.S. Residents
The Issue
I am Alicia, and this petition is deeply personal to me. My husband, a diligent technician certified for auto mechanic and auto tech, is under threat of deportation. Born in Mexico, he relocated to the U.S. when he was just nine years old and has lived here since. He is an integral part of our community and our family of five, with whom he's shared over twenty years of marital bliss.
Our tale is distressingly common, reflecting the predicament of many families with American citizens whose loved ones face possible expatriation. The deportation of parents and spouses disrupts family life and affects the psychosocial well-being of U.S. citizen minors. According to a report by the Migration Policy Institute, about 5.9 million children under 18 lived with an unauthorized immigrant parent between 2009-2013, about 79.3% of whom were U.S. citizens.
Instances such as ours underscore a punitive immigration system that doesn't recognize the economic contributions and family ties of long-time U.S. residents. My husband, a contributing member to society, now faces an uncertain future in a country he barely knows and where he has little to no social network, making his reintegration extraordinarily challenging.
We seek to challenge this flawed system and demand a more humane approach that values family unity and acknowledges the significant contributions of immigrants to the U.S.
Please join us in urging the U.S. government to adopt a more merciful and sensible immigration policy. Your signature can make a difference in thousands of lives, like ours, currently at risk. Let's stand together for justice and families. Please sign this petition.
