Prevent the Demolition of the Historic Waynesboro District Home
The Issue

As a deeply personal issue close to my heart, I have had family members utilize the essential services of the District Home. Some of these dear ones have passed away and are now resting in peace on this very property. The significance of this structure extends beyond just my family ties, it harbors an invaluable piece of our nation's history. The monumental story of Carrie Buck, a renowned figure associated with the landmark Buck vs Bell U.S. Supreme Court case of 1927, is intricately tied to the District Home, where she lived and ultimately died. The building stands as a testament to the trials she underwent during her lifetime.
Beyond personal and historical relevance, the District Home embodies the Colonial Revival Architecture common in the 1920s. Out of the four District Homes erected in Virginia between the years 1927 and 1928, this is one, symbolizing a key architectural era of our past.
Despite plays such a crucial role in our history and architecture, the District Home in Waynesboro is under serious threat of demolition. We cannot allow this vital piece of our heritage to be erased without a trace.
This petition aims to halt the demolition of the building and further efforts to have the Waynesboro District Home properly recognized as a historic landmark. Help us preserve the cultural and historical fabric of our community. Please sign this petition and lend your voice to the cause of safeguarding our history.
