Our public space – the jetty alongside River Thames, Water Lane, London EC3R 6AL has been a cornerstone of our local community for years. This open and accessible area has enabled partially impaired young people and adults to access and enjoy the area leisurely.

Furthermore, it gives families with young children and elderly persons a comfortable refuge to stop amidst their outings, providing much-needed respite and tranquility. 

However, recent proposals to privatize the jetty for commercial use jeopardize the wellbeing and regular routines of our community. This restricted usage would inevitably lead to congestion, limited access, and it would deprive our young ones and senior citizens of a simple pleasure.

In a study conducted by the Land Use Policy in 2018, open spaces are found crucial for community wellbeing and cohesion, particularly in urban neighborhoods (source: Land Use Policy Journal). Therefore, altering the public use of our beloved jetty to private commercial use is not only disruptive but also detrimental to the sense of community that we cherish.

We must rally together to oppose these changes that seek to compromise our community’s welfare. Let's preserve the only public, open and accessible space in our vicinity.
