Prevent the Closure of The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum

Prevent the Closure of The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum
The Issue
Captain James Cook, born from humble beginnings in Marton, Middlesbrough, rose to become arguably the world's greatest explorer. His legacy inspires thousands of schoolchildren to strive for greatness and to achieve more.
Residents of Marton, Middlesbrough and thousands of people worldwide, hold a deep connection to The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. It is not just a museum; it is an emblem of our local heritage and pride.
The proposed closure threatens to erase this vital part of our community's identity. Museums contribute significantly to local economies by attracting tourists and fostering cultural education. Moreover, used correctly, the museum serves as important educational resources for schools across the region.
We must stand together as proud residents of Middlesbrough and protect this symbol of our history from closure. Our children deserve the chance to learn about their heritage and be inspired by Captain Cook's extraordinary life story.
Please sign this petition today and join us in preserving The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum for future generation.
NB. The main aim of Captain James Cook's Endeavour voyage was to observe the transit of Venus from Tahiti in June, 1769. The transit observations were used to calculate the size of the solar system which assisted enormously in nautical navigation.
A massive achievement for a young Marton born lad and I hope you agree, we must keep telling his story to our children !
