Prevent the Closure of New Pitsligo Library

Prevent the Closure of New Pitsligo Library
The Issue
Aberdeenshire council announced on Friday15th November, they are closing New Pitsligo Library, Our library is a place where parents can take their children from a baby and start their child on a life of books and reading by being read to, Its a safe place for children of all ages to learn to read and let their imagination go by reading different exciting books that interests them, It is also a place where adults can come to learn & read for their own enjoyment, or just a safe place for people that may live alone to get some company for 1/2hour or so.
I myself am a regular user of New Pitsligo Library, visiting it 2-3 times a week. The library is more than just a building filled with books; it's a cornerstone of our community in New Pitsligo. The impending closure also jeopardizes the many groups that are regularly held there, There are three groups held weekly for children, a busy Lego Club with 30 kids in attendance, Chill out club with 30 kids in attendance, ASL quiet club, the closure of the library will be leaving young literature lovers without a safe, educative and recreational place,
The Library is used by many other organisations, groups within the community as there is no where else in the village i.e. Community council, Boys Brigade, Rainbows/Brownies, Visual arts, Flower show all hold their meetings in the library, Our local primary school New Pitsligo and St Johns Primary uses the library as there is no room within the school to hold a library.
Our village unfortunately does not have a good Public Transport Service which means it will not be easy to get to the nearest main library which would be in Fraserburgh which is 12 miles away, there is a small library in Mintlaw but there is no buses from new Pitsligo to Mintlaw except for A2B Dial-a-bus which requires booking in advance.
All libraries are an integral part of any community, providing resources for learning and an array of community services.
Our plea is to Aberdeenshire Council: please reconsider this decision. Ponder on the loss it will inflict not just on adult readers, but on children's literature circles and community users relying on library services. We urge you to keep New Pitsligo Library open, for the benefit of the many who depend on it. Join us in calling for a halt on the closure of this vital institution, lending your voice to save our library.
