Prevent the Closure of Macy's at Providence Place Mall

The Issue

I have been employed at Macy's for numerous years, and although I do not work directly at the Providence Place Mall location, the impending closure of this store hits home. The announced closure of the Macy's store in 2025 saddens the entire community. Providence Place Mall is the most significant mall in Rhode Island and essential retail space for locals. If Macy's, one of its major anchors, is closed, it will leave the entire mall reliant on a single anchor, Boscov's. This could have severe economic and social implications, as Macy's presence contributes greatly to this mall's ecosystem.

Our Macy's store is unique, housing a furniture department. Consequently, its closure would signify more than the loss of just another retail store: it would mean losing a significant part of the diversity and convenience offered to shoppers at Providence Place. We fear the impact this decision may have on our fellow employees and the entire community.

The city needs Macy's. They need the jobs it provides, the services and quality products it offers, and the role it plays in maintaining the health and vibrancy of the Providence Place Mall. Therefore, we urge Macy's Inc. to reconsider their decision to close the store at Providence Place Mall and continue contributing to our community's lifestyle and economy. We appeal to you to sign this petition and voice your support for the hard-working employees and customers who rely heavily on this Macy's location.
