Prevent the Closure of Irvington Library and Makerspace

The Issue

Our City of Fremont and Alameda County Library  has planned to close Irvington library on July 31st. The decision was made just few weeks ago much to the shock of the community.

Our library is a staple of our community. The maker space is used by thousands of children who live and attend school in South of Fremont. The library is used by children who attend Irvington High, Horner Middle School, Harvey Green, Hirsch Elementary Schools , Warm Springs , Weibel Elementary School frequently. The Fremont main library facilities are much farther in distance for people  who live in these south of Fremont communities .

Please sign the petition to show City Of Fremont and the Alameda County Public Library , the importance of our libraries and the necessity they are to our communities. The planned closure of the Irvington Library and Makerspace will only perpetuate this glaring disparity, depriving our children of an essential resource for their education and growth. Currently, approximately 25% of Fremont's populace resides in South Fremont. Our area, however, disproportionately lacks public resources as vital as libraries. While the other neighborhoods such as Niles, Centerville and Central Fremont will have continued library services, Irvington and Warm Springs will not have library and the City and County do not have solid plans for a library for these two communities.

The juncture we are at is critical. Our children's access to free learning resources and safe spaces for exploration and innovation, namely the makerspace, is at stake. They ought to have an equal opportunity for growth as their counterparts residing in other parts of Fremont. Indubitably, a library is integral to a community, providing resources to further education.

Our local government and the county have no further solid plans and a proposed date to bring services to south of Fremont in the future. Show your support in preserving our children's futures by signing this petition.
