Prevent the Closure of Eldon Ross Pool in Brooklands, Winnipeg

The Issue

The City of Winnipeg wants to close the doors permanently for Eldon Ross Pool located at 1887 Pacific Ave West in the Brooklands community area to save money on the city's budget. Let me tell you why it is essential to save this pool not only for my family but also the community.

Our family, like many others in the Brooklands, and Weston area, has found a haven in Eldon Ross Pool. This is more than just a pool; it's a community hub where we gather every weekend to swim and socialize. For my autistic son who cannot do laps but can swim freely in the deep end, Eldon Ross is his sanctuary. Other larger swimming pools do not allow my son to swim in the deep end without doing laps.

It's also a meeting point for our beloved senior swimmers who join us every week. The city of Winnipeg took away our community library, our rec centre and we have no splash pad, the only thing we have left is our pool.  The closest swimming pool is 2 bus rides away. The closure of Eldon Ross Pool would leave youth and seniors with few options for healthy physical activities.

The impact of closing this facility extends beyond just swimming - it would disrupt an integral part of our community's social fabric and negatively affect those who rely on its accessibility. The community is concerned that more crime in the area will happen without anything to do in the area.

We urge you to reconsider the decision to close Eldon Ross Pool and instead maintain this vital community resource for current and future generations. Please sign this petition if you believe that everyone should have access to local recreational facilities like Eldon Ross Pool.
