Prevent the Closure of Capitol High School, Baton Rouge

Prevent the Closure of Capitol High School, Baton Rouge
The Issue
As someone with deep roots in Baton Rouge and a proud Golden Lion, I stand against the proposed closure of Capitol High School by the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and Superintendent Cole. This is not just a school; it is a living monument to our city's history and a testament to our survival and progress as a community.
During the era of Jim Crow, Capitol High School was one of only two schools in East Baton Rouge Parish that educated African American students, shaping generations of leaders and professionals contributing to our society today. Families upon families have walked its halls and made lifelong memories here, cultivating legacies that extend from grandmothers to mothers, siblings to cousins.
The pride of being a Golden Lion has been passed down through these generations, and this pride doesn't deserve to be erased. The school represents our heritage, our memories, and our historical significance. The closure of Capitol High School will not only impact our children but the future of the East Baton Rouge community.
However, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and the BESE Board have consistently shown little regard for the potential detrimental effects of their decisions. It's time we make our voices heard.
Sign this petition today to preserve the richness of our history, resist the desecration of our heritage, and protect the future of Capitol High School. Stop the closure of Capitol High School!!!!!
