Sriya Vangala started this petition to Government of Hyderabad

“ We earnestly request, to please have an impactful mind towards our environment. One difference can make a change to MUSI. We as citizens, need to conserve our nation and individually contribute to the best. Let's all join hands to bring back the heritage of Hyderabad."

Musi river is one of the most contaminated rivers in the city of Hyderabad. The Musi river is also known as the Moosa river tributary of the Krishna river in the plateau Deccan, Telangana. It originated from the Ananthagiri hills. This river has a monumental impact on health and economic conditions. Numerous developments throughout Hyderabad have created significance to our daily necessities but have also restricted the flow and diversion of the river. We as citizens have to derelict the duty to maintain our river and, since the initiative wasn’t done, we have now faced the present consequences and impacts of the river.

Water pollution is a notable impact, pollution resulting from the links of sewer lines and industrial drains has also caused the death of Musi. Due to the indiscriminate urbanization and lack of structural planning, and eventually, the river has become a container for untreated domestic and industrial waste dumping out of Hyderabad. It’s said that 350MLD of polluted water from Hyderabad and Secunderabad flows through this river. A demolished river such as Musi not only has pollution but it carries many deadly diseases. Water is a medium where infections can spread and the fact a river is a communal place increases the risk. Without the construction of dams, there are chances that the rivers will run dry just like Musi. When this situation occurs, the long-lasting consequence is devastating.

Now as local citizens, it’s our responsibility to take and resolve this issue with the help of our advanced technology and science. In order to maintain sustainable fresh water in our river, we can assist technology by including large-scale desalination, efficient wastewater treatment technologies, and agricultural technologies. Science has led our path to destruction and advancement. Hence, we can develop catchment dams and protect wetlands, soil management, reduce the usage of chemicals when cleaning and avoid the use of pesticides and herbicides and we also can take up river cleaning.

I assure you that if we take this initiative, we genuinely can save our environment and bring MUSI back to its presence. With all due respect, please think twice before polluting rivers. Every action counts...
