Prevent the Borough from Seizing Our Parking Lot

Prevent the Borough from Seizing Our Parking Lot
The Issue
In 2019, we purchased the salon on Collings Avenue and created what is now known to be Salon G.
620 W Collings Ave, Collingswood, NJ.
The appeal of this location was not just the building itself, but also the accompanying parking lot that would serve our guests. However, a looming threat has emerged - the borough is considering taking our parking lot through eminent domain to add kiosks for PAID PARKING. All tenants, business owners, and employees would be forced to purchase permits to park.
We currently share our lot with surrounding businesses for no charge parking and wish to keep it that way.
This move would force us and all other local businesses on this block to pay for parking. This additional cost could potentially harm our businesses and deter customers who prefer convenient and free parking options.
Eminent domain cases have been known to disrupt communities and small businesses (source: Institute for Justice). Small businesses are often considered the backbone of local economies; according to data from the U.S Small Business Administration (SBA), they account for 44% of U.S economic activity. By threatening small businesses like ours with unnecessary costs, we risk damaging not only individual livelihoods but also Collingswood's vibrant economy.
We urge you to stand with us against this action by signing this petition. Let's protect local business owners' rights and keep Collingswood thriving!
