The Issue

Our family-owned Petrol Station has been a cornerstone for the communities between Malvern and Ledbury, providing essential services to daily commuters, local businesses, and tourists alike. The planned total road closure on the A449 by British Camp from 8th September 2025 to 24th April 2026 threatens not just our livelihood but also the vitality of many schools, businesses, and local institutions dependent on this crucial link.

This stretch of the A449 is more than just a road; it represents the lifeline connecting several towns and villages. Hundreds of residents, students, and workers use this route daily for school, work, and access to healthcare services. The proposed closure would mandate a lengthy detour, causing delays, increased fuel costs, and disruptions to educational and essential services.

Malvern and its surrounding communities rely heavily on tourism. The Malvern Hills, a renowned area of outstanding natural beauty, draws visitors from all over. A major road closure would deter tourists, impacting local businesses that are already striving to recover from the economic impact of the recent pandemic.

While necessary maintenance and improvements are understood to be beneficial in the long run, a complete five-month closure seems excessive. We propose a phased or partial closure strategy, allowing one lane to remain open at all times, or scheduling intensive work during night hours when traffic is lighter. This compromise would maintain connectivity and economic flow crucial to our community's well-being.

Please join us in requesting that those responsible for the planning and execution of this road work reconsider their approach. A solution that minimizes the impact on local businesses and daily life must be prioritized for the benefit of everyone in the Malvern area.

Sign this petition today to voice your support for a more considerate plan that takes into account the needs and livelihoods of all who depend on the A449.
