Prevent Road Connection Between Old and New Neighborhoods

The Issue

Our neighborhood in Athena West Colonia, TX is a tight-knit community of ranches where everyone knows each other. We cherish the peace, quiet, and sense of community that comes with living in a small, connected environment. Our children play outside freely, and we are all aware of each other's families, animals, and the tractors that move slowly through our area.

The proposed construction project to open up our dead-end roads and connect them to a new neighborhood threatens to disrupt our way of life. The increase in traffic would not only jeopardize the safety of our children and pets but also alter the character of our community that we hold dear.

Research shows that connecting dead-end streets to new developments can lead to an increase in accidents and reduce the quality of life for existing residents (Source: UrbanLand Institute). Our small county roads are not equipped to handle the additional traffic that would come with such a connection, and this could lead to congestion and safety issues.

Instead of linking the roads, we should explore alternatives that ensure both the old and new neighborhoods can thrive independently. Options like building new access roads for the new neighborhood without disrupting ours, or enhancing public transport options, would allow for development without negatively impacting our community.

For the safety of our children, the preservation of our community's character, and the prevention of increased traffic congestion, we urge the relevant planning authorities to reconsider this road connection. Please support our cause and help us keep our neighborhood a peaceful and safe place to live. Sign this petition to make a difference.
