WE NEED YOUR HELP! ONE MORE WEEK!! Thursday, Sept 4 at 6PM located at - 120 W Dougherty St, Athens, GA 30601 ACC Planning Commission will vote, and we need your help. Please come and help defeat the rezoning of 200 acres adjacent to Coile Middle School from Agricultural to Employment Industrial. We do not need 2000 more cars daily on Old Elberton Road as applicant’s traffic study suggests. We do not need more Industrial lots especially 4 huge buildings each the size of 6 football fields with parking lots! This is beautiful land! Athens and Winterville residents please read the proposal below. If you have signed the petition please check your address, it will be used. If not, please join us and sign. No $ needed. Please share! ———————————————————————- Our peaceful community is under threat once again. In 2021, we faced an uphill battle against a neighbor-driven proposal to rezone 230 acres in our front yard for over 800 housing units. Today, this threat has resurfaced with a new proposal that seeks to rezone this land on the east side of Old Elberton Road for Employment Industrial (EI) use, challenging the current AR zoning.

This pristine area, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant community spirit, deserves our protection. Rezoning for industrial use would not only disturb the serene environment but also set a precedent for further industrial encroachment. It's important to note that the Athens-Clarke County (ACC) future land use plan does not advocate for Employment Industrial zoning on the east side of Old Elberton Rd, reflecting a vision to safeguard our community's character and natural charm.

The proposed plan includes four large buildings with a combined coverage of 2 million square feet. While the developers lack definitive plans, the implications of these preliminary designs are profound and deeply concerning for current residents. As neighbors directly impacted by this proposal, we are calling on all Athens, GA residents to stand against this project to preserve the area's aesthetics and community health.

Through concerted community effort, it's within our power to prevent this development. By stopping this rezoning, we protect the integrity of our neighborhood, maintain the beauty of our surroundings, and support sustainable land use that aligns with community values. Together, we can ensure that our environment remains a refuge from the industrial noise and environmental harm.

We urge the ACC decision-makers to reject any attempts to impose industrial zoning on this treasured land. Let's ensure a future where our community continues to thrive in harmony with nature and not in its destruction.

Sign this petition to preserve our community and reject the rezoning proposal. Protect Athens, GA for future generations.
