Prevent Overcrowding in Indian Creek 4th Grade Classes

Prevent Overcrowding in Indian Creek 4th Grade Classes
The Issue
My son is part of next years fourth-grade group at Indian Creek Elementary, students who have already faced significant educational setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For two years, I dedicated my time as an LCAP aid to support these children, witnessing firsthand how they struggle with catching up in both math and reading. Reducing the number of teachers and increasing class sizes to over 30 students each is a step in the wrong direction.
The Mother Lode Union School District's decision to reassign a fourth-grade teacher from Indian Creek Elementary will force two teachers to manage all fourth-grade students, further inflating class sizes. This drastic increase places an enormous burden on the remaining educators, who will have to divide their attention among too many students, thereby compromising the quality of education each child receives.
It's crucial to recognize that these children are still recovering from the academic disruptions caused by the pandemic. Larger class sizes mean less individualized attention, fewer opportunities for personalized intervention, and additional challenges to their mental and academic well-being. This situation is particularly concerning as there are already very few support aides available to assist the teachers and students.
We can't allow these already disadvantaged students to fall even further behind. Education at Indian Creek Elementary should be reinforced, not diminished. Maintaining adequate teacher numbers is essential to ensure smaller class sizes, where students can thrive with the help of tailored instruction and necessary resources.
Given the circumstances and the clear need to support these students effectively, I implore those involved in the decision-making process to reconsider the reassignment decision. Let's come together as a community to uphold the standard of education our children deserve. Sign this petition to petition the reduction of teaching staff for fourth grade at Indian Creek Elementary and support smaller, more effective class sizes for the benefit of all students involved. Please come to the Board Meeting Wednesday June 11 at 5:15pm in the MERC building. 3783 Forni Rd, Placerville, CA
