I've lived twenty years of my  life in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, a place celebrated for its innovation and vibrant communities. However, in recent years, I've noticed a troubling trend. More and more residents, including myself, have been grappling with persistent migraines and other cognitive health issues. It wasn’t until I started researching that I discovered a potential catalyst for this health crisis: the data centers cropping up close to our homes.

There is mounting evidence suggesting that the electromagnetic fields emitted by data centers can contribute to neurological issues such as migraines, insomnia, and even more severe brain health problems over time. Studies have shown that long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields, especially when living within close proximity to their sources, can exacerbate these health concerns.

In the SF Bay Area, known hubs like Silicon Valley, Oakland, and smaller suburban communities are experiencing a significant increase in data center constructions. These centers are crucial for our ever-evolving digital infrastructure, but the potential health ramifications cannot be overlooked.

I propose a stringent regulation enforced by local government authorities: no new data centers should be constructed within a 50-mile radius of any residential area. This buffer will help protect our communities from the potential health impacts. Additionally, existing data centers should be required to implement and maintain advanced shielding technologies to mitigate electromagnetic exposure.

I understand the importance of these facilities, but the health and well-being of our residents must remain a priority. We must push for further research and government oversight to ensure that technological advancements do not come at the cost of our community's health.
