Prevent my ex from returning to Newton Abbot

Prevent my ex from returning to Newton Abbot
The Issue
In February 2025, my life took a terrifying turn when Mr. Toovey, my ex-partner, stabbed me in a jealous rage. Since then, I have struggled every day to rebuild my life and regain the sense of safety and security that was violently taken from me. Living in Newton Abbot has provided me with a support network of friends and family who have helped me piece my life back together. However, my healing process now faces a grave threat, as there are intentions to move me out of Newton Abbot while allowing Mr. Toovey to return to this community.
Allowing Mr. Toovey to move back into Newton Abbot poses a significant risk not only to my safety but also to the safety of others in the community. It is well-documented that individuals with a history of violence are more likely to reoffend, and Mr. Toovey's return could unsettle the local residents who deserve to live in peace without the shadow of fear hanging over them.
I am calling on the local council and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to prevent Mr. Toovey from moving back into Newton Abbot. We must prioritise the safety and well-being of all residents and uphold the sanctity of a community free from intimidation and violence. Instead of moving victims away from their support systems, measures should be in place to keep offenders from returning, thus ensuring a safer environment for everyone involved.
Please join me in urging the responsible authorities to take this necessary action. By signing this petition, you are standing up for the safety and rights of domestic violence survivors and helping to build a safe and supportive community for all residents in Newton Abbot. Your signature can help make a difference and bring about the change we desperately need. Sign this petition to keep our community safe.
Statistics show that victims of domestic violence are at a higher risk of being re-assaulted or harassed by their abuser if they live in close proximity to them.
Total victims: 7.8% of people aged 16 and over experienced domestic abuse (around 3.8 million people).
For a first-time Section 18 assault, sentencing can vary significantly but often involves a custodial sentence, with typical ranges from 3 to 16 years, and a maximum of life imprisonment.
I urge you to sign this petition to allow survivor of domestic violences such as myself to be able to live in a community fear-free and happy
Thanks
Debbie
