As an Everett citizen, it has come to my attention that the proposed beginning of LifeWise programs could significantly hinder our public school system. LifeWise Academy is a nationwide organization that works to have bible study during school hours. The kids enrolled would be pulled out of part of the school day to participate in religious education. Every family—and indeed, every child—has the right to enrich their educational experiences with additional religious, cultural, or other teachings. However, this should be happening outside of the school day. Our public school day is meticulously planned and purposed to provide well-rounded learning, something that could be disrupted by the LifeWise programs. 

Public schools are designed to provide a foundation of knowledge, teaching children not just academics, but also vital life skills. In Everett, WA, we are proud of our public school system that focuses on providing a balanced education to children, in accordance with the U.S. Department of Education standards. Everett Public Schools has high quality educators and curriculum. This includes our specialized teachers in art, library, music, PE and others. Bringing in outside programs like LifeWise would not only exclude students from these specialized classes but it will also create a divide among the student body. 

Furthermore, school time is calculated to cover an broad array of topics within a standard curriculum. According to a 2018 study from the National Center for Education Statistics, schools are increasingly having troubles in covering all necessary subjects due to time constraints. Adding the LifeWise programs could exacerbate this issue.

This is a plea to all residents of Everett, WA who value the time-tested structure of our public education system. Let's ensure our children receive a comprehensive education without interruption. Please, stand with me to prevent the onslaught of LifeWise programs in our public schools by signing this petition.
