Prevent Gym Deaths - Mandate AEDs in All Gyms Nationwide

The Issue

What if your next workout was your last?
Imagine pushing through a tough set at your local gym—then suddenly, your heart stops.
No warning. No time.
Would anyone know what to do?
Without an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) or someone trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), survival chances drop with every passing second.

Right now in India, there are no laws requiring gyms to have AEDs or trained responders. That means your life—or the life of someone you love—could depend on luck, not preparedness.

💔 A Personal Tragedy That Could Have Been Prevented
In 2017, I lost my father, Padma Shri Dr. Lalji Singh, at Varanasi airport.
He suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and there was no AED or trained medical responder available.
He didn’t stand a chance.

That moment changed everything for me.
As a frequent traveler and fitness enthusiast, I now walk into every gym scanning for one thing—not dumbbells, not treadmills—but defibrillators.
Too often, I find none.

This isn’t just about airports or gyms—it’s about a system that fails to prepare for the most preventable kind of death.

⚠️ The Hidden Risk in Every Gym
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death among adults over 40—and it strikes healthy, active people too.
In fact, athletes and gym-goers are three times more likely to experience SCA during strenuous exercise.
If treated within minutes using CPR and an AED, survival rates can jump from less than 10% to over 60%.
Without them, it’s game over.

🏋️‍♀️ Fitness Shouldn’t Be Fatal
Gyms exist to build stronger, healthier lives—but they must also be safe spaces.
We’re calling for a nationwide mandate requiring:
✅ Every gym to install at least one AED on-site.
✅ At least one staff member trained in CPR and AED use on duty at all times.

These are basic, life-saving standards, not luxuries. They save lives in airports, schools, and workplaces—why not in gyms too (where the risks are much much higher)?

💪 Join the Movement
This campaign is about more than equipment—it’s about protecting lives.
No one should lose a loved one in a place meant to improve their health.

Join me in urging the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India, to make AEDs and CPR training mandatory in all gyms nationwide.
