Prevent further cuts to Medicaid and Medicare

The Issue

At one time in my life, I needed Medicaid. It was there for me and I can't imagine the struggle I would have faced without it. Medicaid and Medicare are not just abstract government programs; they are lifelines for millions of American families. They represent the promise that we, as a society, care for the health and well-being of our most vulnerable citizens.

Recent political maneuvers threaten this promise. There are ongoing discussions and attempts, particularly by Republican policymakers, to cut funding from these crucial programs. Such actions will undoubtedly have devastating effects, including increased mortality rates among the elderly, disabled, and impoverished. Cutting Medicaid and Medicare funding is not just a fiscal decision—it's a moral one. We are risking the lives of countless individuals who depend on these programs for basic health coverage.

In 2022, Medicaid provided health insurance to over 83 million low-income individuals, including children, pregnant women, elderly adults, and people with disabilities. Medicare served nearly 64 million people, including older adults and people with disabilities. These programs provide an essential safety net that countless Americans rely on.

Further reductions in funding will lead to fewer services, longer waiting times for essential treatment, and an increase in health disparities among different socio-economic groups. Some of the most severe consequences will be felt in states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, which have seen improved healthcare access and outcomes.

I urge our lawmakers to prioritize the health and welfare of their constituents over political agendas. Instead of making cuts, we should be looking for ways to strengthen and improve these programs, ensuring that they can sustainably serve future generations.

Sign this petition to demand our leaders stop any plans for cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, and instead protect these vital programs. Let's commit to safeguarding the well-being of millions of Americans.
