Prevent Development and Promote Rewilding of Fire-Ravaged Lands in Los Angeles

The Issue

The personal agony I feel each time I look at the charred remnants of what was once the most beautiful part of Los Angeles is unimaginable. This area, once vibrant with life hosting thousands of private residencies and an array of wild animals, is now reduced to a burnt scar on the face of the Earth due to wildfires.

This is not just a loss of property; it is the loss of habitat, biodiversity, and an important part of our community's soul. To see developers now eyeing these lands for construction rather than rewilding is heartbreaking. Exploiting such lands won't solve our housing crisis but it will definitely exacerbate our environmental crisis.

Science tells us that rewilding charred land not only aids in ecological recovery but can also prevent future wildfires. A study by the Environmental Research Letters reminds us that natural regrowth helps in soil recovery and carbon storage (Environmental Research Letters, 2020).

Now is the time to take action. We must ensure our city authorities prioritize the long-term health of LA's environment over short-term development projects. I urge you to sign this petition to call on the LA City Council to enact policies that protect our fire-ravaged lands from development and instead implement strategies for rewilding.

We cannot bring back what was lost in the fires. But we can certainly preserve what is left and nurture it back to life. Join this fight for our land and our future. Please sign and share.
