Prevent Dangerous Overdevelopment in Lynwood Park

Prevent Dangerous Overdevelopment in Lynwood Park
The Issue
Our streets in the north end of historic Lynwood Park, nestled in Brookhaven, GA, are narrow passageways built for the quiet charm our community has known and cherished for decades. These quaint roads were never intended for the bustling traffic that comes with through streets, nor the congestion of overdeveloped neighborhoods. Yet today, we face the alarming possibility of losing this cherished tranquility.
A proposal has been put forward that involves significant variances to allow the construction of four new houses. This plan also includes connecting two of our peaceful streets and erecting a substantial stormwater retention pond. Such developments not only threaten the character of our neighborhood but pose significant risks to our residents.
Stormwater retention ponds, while vital for managing water flow and minimizing flood risk, bring their own challenges. They can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increase local humidity, and even pose safety hazards for our young ones playing nearby. The construction and long-term maintenance of these ponds often strain local infrastructure and resources, diverting them from other necessary community uses.
The connectivity proposed between streets will transform what are today serene residential avenues into thoroughfares, disrupting the safe and quiet lifestyle we value in Lynwood Park. Increased traffic brings noise, pollution, and safety concerns, especially for families with children, pets, and our elderly neighbors who enjoy leisurely walks and a peaceful ambiance. There is currently no allowance for building sidewalks either.
We must unite as a community to protect the historical and serene character of Lynwood Park. This development sets a dangerous precedent for future projects, and without our action, we risk transforming our neighborhood into something unrecognizable.
Join us in opposing these variances in person at the BOA meeting September 17th at 7 pm on Buford Highway and preserve the charm and safety of Lynwood Park. Sign this petition to let the developers and city officials know that our community’s voice is powerful and united in this cause. Stand with us to keep Lynwood Park safe and cherished for future generations. Please, sign this petition today.
