Prevent Closure of Lewis Center for Gifted Learners and Halt Student Transfers

The Issue

Our children are not just students at Lewis Center for Gifted Learners, but a vital part of a close-knit community comprising students, parents, and dedicated staff members. We stand united, bound by our shared belief in nurturing the unique talents of our gifted learners, our children. We have put our trust in the school's personnel, confiding in their extraordinary service and commitment towards fostering our children's individual strengths.

Located adjacent to a local university, a children's museum, a YMCA, and an organization focused on fostering learning in science and arts, the Lewis Center for Gifted Learners is not only a school but an institution at the heart of the community's learning landscape. We believe that shifting our children to the main campus will strip them of the vibrant environment and diverse learning opportunities that they are currently exposed to.

We understand financial considerations may be at play. However, we ask decision makers to take into account the impact the closure of this school will have on the families, disrupting the stable environment our children have grown accustomed to.

Educational stability matters. According to a review by the National Education Policy Center, frequent changes in schools can negatively affect a student's academic and emotional development. This underscores the importance of keeping our school open.

In light of this, we urge our school board to reconsider their plan, to keep the Lewis Center for Gifted Learners operating at its current location, and to halt the proposed student transfers to the main campus. Please join us in supporting this cause. Sign the petition and let our voices be heard!
