Devolve control of Broadcast Standards to the Scottish Government.

The issue

To The Press Complaints commission

The UK broadcast and print media in Scotland have shown time after time to be less than impartial and have blatantly manipulated figures and fed misinformation to the people of Scotland.

This is damaging our peoples ability to make valued judgements based on reporting, it is damaging our credibility in the foreign press, and it is damaging our reputation for fairness that culturally we have been developing for longer than Britain has existed.

We the undersigned feel that we have been desenfranchised by the lack of Scottish accountability in relation to our broadcast and print media and we now want the problem redressed.

This is a human rights issue, we can no longer in a modern nation accept being lied to by our media and having areas of our public life supressed for political reasons.

Thank you for sending a copy of the petition entitled “Devolve control of Broadcast Standards to the Scottish Government” to the Press Complaints Commission. The PCC is an independent self-regulatory body which deals with complaints about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines and their websites. It is not a governmental or quasi-governmental body. A copy of the Code of Practice enforced by the PCC can be accessed using this web link: http://www.pcc.org.uk/cop/practice.html Our website www.pcc.org.uk explains how the PCC deals with complaints. Its contact details are as follows: Ofcom, Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HA www.ofcom.org.uk Tel: 0300 123 3333 or 020 7981 3040 Complaints about the BBC can also be sent to: BBC Complaints, PO Box 1922, Darlington DL3 0UT, Tel: 03700 100 222 https://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/forms/ Alternatively, if you would like to take forward a formal complaint about editorial material you have seen in a newspaper or magazine (or on the website of a newspaper or magazine) we would simply require a dated cutting of the article (or a link to it) and your explanation as to how the Editors’ Code of Practice has been breached.
