We, the students of Wentworth Institute of Technology, hereby stand with the faculty and librarians of the university in their decision to vote no confidence in President Thompson and his administration. As formed and signed in this petition, we also vote no confidence amidst this global pandemic. The needs and concerns for the faculty and thereby families must be taken into consideration as it affects many more than simply the bank account of the institution. We, the students of Wentworth Institute of Technology, call upon CHANGE.

Throughout this pandemic, we the faculty, librarians, and students have seen that the focus of Wentworth Institute of Technology’s efforts have been on the gathering and use of money, rather than the healthy and safety of all that are a part of the community. It is no secret that the cases of Coronavirus have been skyrocketing, as many individuals ignore the concerns and continue in daily life as if there is not a global pandemic looming over their heads. Among these individuals are President Thompson of Wentworth Institute of Technology and the administration that stands beneath him. As the fall 2020 semester comes to a close, the faults in Wentworth’s priorities have begun to show, with the university “trapping” students into in person or hybrid learning by hitting students where is hurts, their livelihoods, their social lives, and their free time: their schedules. If a student would like to remain remote, they would have to suffer through an excruciating schedule, in which their course times are already set out for them since there is only one choice of fully online section per course. But more importantly, we must turn our heads to a more prominent group of individuals who are at the forefront of the student and university success: the faculty and librarians. These individuals strive to make students remote learning the best it can be, which access to resources and more information if needed, as the tutoring at the university has fallen short in the pandemic. These faculty belong to families, in which they stand to protect, and forcing attendance to in person learning hinders their ability to protect those they love, much as the students have been suffering to accomplish.

Take into consideration the people and families that these decisions are affecting. Because rather than dollar signs and student numbers, we are people and individuals with the will the learn by our own account, and be treated as such, much like the faculty. Wasn’t it Wentworth who vowed to focus in student accomplishment and individuality rather than numbers? Wasn’t it Wentworth who stated we the students would be seen as people and be the progression of the greatness of Wentworth? We are the future of the generations to come. Treat us as such President Thompson and his Administration.
