Call for the Egyptian Gov to Return Sherif's Passport

Call for the Egyptian Gov to Return Sherif's Passport
The Issue
Sherif Gaber is an Egyptian Atheist and Youtuber. In his videos, he not only criticizes Islam and religion in general, but he also stands for humanity, LGBT+ rights and feminism. This did not only earn him a large fan base in the Arab world but also lots of enemies deeming his progressive and secular views to be a "threat". Facing increasing political pressure in Egypt, Sherif made an attempt to leave Egypt in October 2018. However, his passport was confiscated by the Egyptian authorities and he was banned from leaving the country.
Having several charges including blasphemy, insulting Islam, contempt of religion, supporting homosexuality, inciting social disorder and "religious extremism" against him, Sherif could face more than 30 years in prison. In January 2019, Sherif tried to raise funds to buy a foreign citizenship but to no avail. Now Sherif's situation is more desperate than ever.
On 11th of July, Sherif posted the following on his Twitter account: "I'm on the verge of committing suicide. I tried everything. I can't see hope. I really feel the end now. Get me out of here. I'm dying. Please."
We urge the Ministry of Justice and President El-Sissi to return Sherif's passport and let him leave the country unharmed.
