Plastic bags are everywhere in our environment. When we go to purchase our groceries, we use plastic bags because they are convenient.Almost all groceries, restaurants, and other establishments we go to nowadays use paper bags to package and carry items we buy. In fact, in our modern lives, it has become part of us. However, the convenience of these plastic bags come at a very high cost to the environment and negatively affects human health. Several cities globally have begun banning the use of plastic bags while some have enforced restricted laws against the use of plastic bags because of the negative effects of the use of their usage.

The environmental, health and economic costs of plastic bags are widely-known and unchallenged: among others, they block drainages and cause flooding, choke marine and land animals, are a blight particularly in tourism and coastal areas, waterways and public spaces, and take up valuable space in waste disposal facilities where they will persist for hundreds of years. In addition, the production and distribution of plastic bags contribute significantly to climate change. Because of these negative effects, hundreds of measures around the world have been taken.

Since in some supermarkets they are using plastic bags instead of paper bags because it is more useful and more durable than the paper bags. Some peole may prefer using paper bags because some plastic bag have fee but for the paper bags it's free and also paper bags will just melt but the plastic bags will clug in some drainage

  • Many trees are cut down

- Many trees are cut just for use in paper bags or any type of paper. Because the trees are reduced when the trees are depleted they do not absorb water when there is a flood then the nature is destroyed.

  • There is a fee in the markets

Paper bags are chargeable compared to plastic bags are not.

  • It melts quickly when wet with water

The paper bags will quickly melt and soften when wet with water, so it can't be used again. For example situation is when it's raining.

Philosophical views from lesson 6

Environmental Ethics

This is environmental ethics because it focuses on Ethics is the study of what is right and wrong in human conduct. Environmental ethics studies the effects of human’s moral relationships on the environment and everything within it (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2008). The ethical principles that govern those relations determine human duties, obligations, and responsibilities with regard to the Earth’s natural environment and all of the animals and plants that inhabit it.

  • Can no longer block the canal/ drainages
  • Cause flooding will be reduced
  • Reduced choke marine
  • The animals will no longer be affected.
  • Can recycle
  • Floating debris in the sea will disappear
  • The environment will be clean

The solution here must be ban the use of plastic bags in the super markets of the Philippines, when that happens, no one will have any problems with the garbage that litter the streets as well as the seas. We should all assist in cleaning the environment. Participate in organizations that related to beautification of nature.Let's be responsible for our flaws. Do not store garbage anywhere, throw it in the right trash can. Break down waste such as plastics, paper and decaying waste.

Again before I close my petition I just want to express my opinion that it is better to use paper bags instead of plastic bags because it helps nature to maintain the cleanliness of our home. Here I am finalizing my petition about using paper bags instead of using plastic bags in all malls in the Philippines. "WE ARE MADE FROM MOTHER EARTH AND WE GO BACK TO THE MOTHER EARTH"
