This petition is requesting all law enforcement officers to make a formal greeting when making a traffic stop. All that we are asking is for all police officers to introduce themselves and say hello when having an interaction with citizens. Setting the the tone with an interaction with the police is a simple and easy way to de-escalate an often tense situation. Having officers and citizens alike showing a side of humility when interacting would greatly improve the relationship between the people and the police. Too often when a citizen gets pulled over the conversation begins with the officer asking for documentation or acknowledgemental of a crime. This immediately creates a bind between the two and makes the interaction much less pleasant for all. A simple introduction and maybe a handshake would make the interactions between the people and law enforcement much less aggressive. If this easy change could be made not only will tragedies be prevented, but overall will create an better understanding between the citizens and the officers that serve us.
