April 5th 2023, The United States Sentencing Commission(USSC) adopted proposed amendments to the federal Sentencing Guidelines for the first time in five years.
One of the most controversial amendments is the compassionate release "other"section, where if a prisoner received an unusually long sentence and has served at least 10 years of the term of imprisonment, changes in the law may be considered in determining whether an extraordinary and compelling reason exist. These extraordinary and compelling circumstances occur ONLY where such change would produce a gross disparity between the sentence being served and the sentence likely to be imposed at the time the motion is filed.
This amendment goes into effect Nov. 1 2023 'ON THE CONDITION' congress doesn't veto(prohibit it's enactment). This amendment will help individuals like myself who are serving an unusually long sentence, receive a second chance look into our case on the grounds that ten plus years has already been served of the sentence imposed and on the condition that had we been sentenced today, for the same crime, we'd receive a much lesser sentence than we did ten plus years ago.
Please show your support by signing and sharing this petition. Each signature represents the people showing their objection to Congress vetoing the USSC's amendments to the sentencing guidelines. The more signatures we receive, the more likely we can show congress that the people of this country care about fixing our broken justice system." https://chng.it/4Ytds6pXTc
