Stand Up Against the Persecution of Christians Worldwide

While the persecution of Christians are viewed by many to be an event that occurred in biblical times the reality is that the persecution of Christians continues to this day and is increasingly more commonplace as fanatical zealots target those of Christian faith in numerous countries globally.

On April 6th of this year, Pope Francis expressed his hope that the international community does not look on, “silent and inactive”, in the face of the "unacceptable crime" of the persecution of Christians around the world.

Pope Francis stated, in part: “…. what must continue …..the concrete participation and  tangible help in the defense and protection of our brothers and sisters, who are persecuted, exiled, killed, beheaded,  for the only reason of being a Christian…. They are our martyrs today and they are many; we are able to say that they are more numerous than in the first centuries. I sincerely hope that the international community does not look the other way.”

We as Catholic parishioners of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY express our deepest concerns that there is a lack of condemnation by our press and more importantly by our elected officials to this increasingly serious situation. We ask that our elected officials make it known that we cannot stand silent while Christians are persecuted in Syria, Eqypt, Pakistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Kenya, North Korea, and many other countries, many of which are supposedly considered allies of the U.S.

We are imploring our elected officials to continue to raise the awareness of all Americans on this and make clear statements that the U.S. people are not looking the other way and will do everything within our powers to ensure that these actions will cease.
