ABOLISH CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

ABOLISH CORPORAL PUNISHMENT
The Issue
I am someone who advocates for respectful parenting on several different platforms, including YouTube, Instagram and my WordPress blog. Recently, I was researching the history of corporal punishment, and I came across the Ingraham VS. Wright Case. The ruling was decided in 1977, but in 1970 a boy was called to the principal's office for "being disruptive during class" in a Florida school. Wright ordered him to receive a paddling for the offense. Ingraham argued that he was not guilty of this, therefore, refused the punishment. This is when Willie J. Wright, Lemmie Deliford, and Solomon Barnes restrained James Ingraham and beat him so severely that he had to go to the hospital!!! The Supreme Court ruled that corporal punishment did not fall under the "cruel and unusual punishment" scope because the 8th amendment only applies to criminals and those who are incarcerated; this does not apply to children at school. This child was beaten so severely AT SCHOOL (a supposed "safe" place) that he had to endure medical treatment. James also had to miss eleven days of school, recovering from his injuries from these vile men.
Please keep in mind that the behavior of the men who severely beat this boy is that of a tyrant. They refused to even listen to James when he tried to speak. How are we supposed to teach children to use their words when conflict arises when we as adults use violence to control their behavior? Children will mimic what is modeled.
Although this case occurred in the 1970s, here is a list of states that STILL permit corporal punishment: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming.
Corporal punishment has been proven time and time again by research to be harmful and ineffective. WE MUST DEMAND THAT IT BE ILLEGAL TO LAY HANDS ON A CHILD! Let us implore Joe Biden to urge Congress to overturn this preposterous, unjust, and utterly immoral ruling.
There must be a federal barrier to this repulsive abuse of authority.
Let's arm parents with the tools to raise their children with respect and empathy. Let us assist them and give them the tools to raise their children with kindness and empathy. Finally, let us throw in a dumpster fire the fallacious lie that we have to physically and emotionally abuse our children in order to form them into moral adults.
