Dear Rutgers, Please Use OUR Money Wisely.
The Issue
Recently, the incoming freshmen (NB and Newark, not sure about Camden), received an email which mentioned that they will receive a free iPad (256 GB), which roughly cost Rutgers $4.2 million.
What about those students who relied on being on campus to use the computers in which they already paid for to complete any assignments that they may have? What about the students who cannot afford to buy a tablet, laptop, computer, or even decent Wi-Fi?
They took off a small amount of fees from our already OVERPRICED term bill. Did NOT remove campus fees. Has HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of faculty members WITHOUT contracts. Did NOT offer a free iPad to students in need no matter what year they’re in. Still has NOT discussed future safety measures when it’s time to return.
Some even have said that the free iPads were only being given to secure their enrollment. But why bribe these incoming freshmen? Is the level of education offered at Rutgers not already enough to convince them to secure their enrollment? I’m sure Rutgers is better than this.
If Rutgers can afford to spend $4.2 million on iPads, then I'm sure that they have plenty of money ready to be spent on other superfluous things. We obviously need a clear breakdown of fees to understand where our money is going.
KEEP SHARING! We cannot sit back and allow for this to be the final decision they make.
What we pay for is a major aspect of our education to be instructed by an educator in a class setting. For what reason should any student need to pay the full cost when the money is NOT going towards where it matters the MOST nor is it being distributed EQUALLY?
Our educational cost is what subsidizes the school and permits Rutgers to offer us what they can. In any case, since those assets are not being utilized for their fullest potential benefit and limit, for what reason does Rutgers find it reasonable to give free iPads to incoming freshmen when I’m positive that MOST of those students won't even use it for educational purposes and simply use it for their own benefit even while they're still enrolled at Rutgers?
Rutgers University must amend this issue by requesting an educational cost slice or the like to compensate for the absence of instructive commitment since they obviously have lots of money to spend, extra assets that would be gotten if face to face, iPads to those ONLY in need, and contracts for our beloved faculty members.
We would like to get the information out as much as possible. News outlets have been contacted. If you need to contact me regarding any information, feel free to contact me via email: itsdannah22@gmail.com. Please share this petition everywhere.
