Thank you for supporting 1 million DREAM youth. #WeAreAmericans
Friends, I just learned that President Obama and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have listened to the public outpouring of support for DREAM youth -- young people who have grown up American and want to give back to their communities by becoming US citizens. You may have seen them "coming out" with me on the cover of TIME magazine this week.
Well, starting today, DREAM-eligible youth will be able to officially come forward -- no longer risking deportation -- and apply to work, join the army, or go to college. They will be able to give back to the country they call home.
While this solution isn't perfect (in fact, at 30, I don't qualify for relief myself), this is a tremendous victory that couldn't have happened without the passion and dedication of hundreds of thousands of people like you, raising your voices together.
As an undocumented immigrant myself, I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart, and I hope you will join with me in thanking the President for having the courage to listen to us and take bold action.
President Obama needs to know that there are reasonable voices like yours that are questioning the broken status quo and that support a broader, more inclusive America.
I am heading to DC right now with my team at Define American, and we will be delivering your thanks to the White House on Monday. Please add your name now and continue to stand with me for a new conversation about immigration in America.
You can read my blog post about this here.
