Ban Tomi Lahren from Clemson University
The Turning Point USA - Clemson University Chapter will be hosting Tomi Lahren along with Brandon Tatum on April 8th to speak about “Back the Blue.” As students of Clemson University, we do not condone the appearance of Tomi Lahren on our campus AND demand that Clemson University bans her from our university.
Tomi Lahren is a blatant racist that spreads hate and incites bigotry towards underrepresented groups in our nation by making statements that are, including but not limited to, racist, homophobic, and xenophobic. Allowing a speaker like Tomi Lahren to speak on our campus would be inconsistent and contradictory to our Clemson University core values: Honesty, Integrity, and Respect. Tomi Lahren has tweeted and/or directly stated the following statements:
“Meet the new KKK, they call themselves ‘Black Lives Matter’...When that now becomes the narrative and you’re starting to loot, burn and riot -- what did the KKK do?”
“In the countries they come from, fourth-, fifth-, sixth-grade educations are kind of the norm. They don’t speak English; obviously that’s a big thing … They don’t integrate well; they don’t have skills.”
“Anyone selfish enough to let their emotions or gender dysphoria get in the way of their service, the safety of their fellow warriors, or their country, is 100 per cent a traitor and should be treated as such. Not applauded for his 'trans bravery' - are you kidding me?”
How could an institution that claims Honesty, Integrity, and Respect, allow such a human being to come on our campus and speak on behalf of our students?
Clemson University refused to allow post or comment on their social media accounts regarding the 2021 Keynote Speaker for the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Service, Angela Davis, due to “insensitive comments made by the speaker in years past.” This event was hosted by the Harvey and Lucinda Gantt Multicultural Center, housed in the Clemson University Office of Inclusion and Equity. David Banner, the 2019 Black History Month Keynote Speaker, hosted by the Harvey and Lucinda Gantt Multicultural Center, was banned immediately from the University following his appearance.
There is a perpetual cycle of Clemson University choosing to stay silent and taking a one-sided approach when “supporting” their students. The voices of all students should be uplifted, prioritized, and taken into consideration. By remaining silent, that speaks volumes to your students, staff, faculty, alumni, donors, and community members. This institution has a history of oppression, racism, and bigotry that continues to permeate on our campus to this day. By allowing Tomi Lahren to speak you are directly contributing to the continued systemic oppression that this university has upheld. This is an opportunity for you to make the right decision, to stand on your core values, and finally support the students that you have undervalued, overlooked, and marginalized on your university campus
