This petition is to start the escort van service again and get these services daily. Sign and help make the campus safer for walking home alone at night. I wrote this email to the President of the school, please read to learn more about why I started the petition.

"Dear President,
I am a first-year Cal Poly student. I am emailing regarding the recent rape reports. I want to call to attention that the escort van service is not running, and walking escorts are provided only on Fridays and Saturdays nights. In addition, the awareness of this service is limited. As a small woman, I know the fear of walking alone at night, and I know that almost all women and other individuals feel this sentiment. Many students have classes at night when it is dark, and this is when rapes typically happen. A big problem is walking back to the dorms alone, and many individuals do not have a car or big group to walk in. I recognize it is never the victim's fault, and more work needs to be done in teaching those that these acts are not ethical in any regard; however, merely sending emails detailing how to be "safer" has done little to nothing. Girls are taught how to be "safer" since childhood, yet assault still happens at a young age. Action needs to be taken, and the first step is providing safe resources for women, and anyone who feels unsafe, such as an escort van that runs all week. I understand there are troubles with finding drivers and costs. However, we should put safety as the priority over cost. I acknowledge our administration's efforts, and sadly, it is not enough as this is the second rape in the month that I have been here, and I am sure there have been more unreported assaults. I will be starting a petition to get more escort vans and more escort resources for everyone. I hope you take this email into account and support us in fighting against the evils of sexual harassment and assault.
