UF released a survey last year regarding sexual assault on campus and found that around 30% of undergraduate women at UF reported that they had experienced non-consensual sexual contact on campus. This is a 10% increase since the survey was last conducted in 2015.The Washington Post in 2019, reported the results of this survey among 33 universities, including Georgetown, Harvard, Ohio State, Stanford, UF, etc. The results concluded that UF’s nearly 30% percentage ranked the third highest in undergraduate female sexual assault among these 33 universities. 

     To combat this issue, UF needs to implement The Flip the Script training. This training follows the Canadian curriculum EAAA, also known as The Enhanced Access, Knowledge, and Act Program. The Flip the Script program teaches women to access their situation, acknowledge when the situation is deteriorating, and then ACT. This program is geared towards situations where there’s no bystanders present, the assaulter is someone you know, and self defense when uncomfortable situations arise. The best elements of this program are that it caters to the statistic that 2/3 of sexual assaults are caused by people the victims know. It also works with programs like Green Dot a bystander intervention program that UF is currently implementing, to make sure college students know what actions to take in every sort of situation where sexual assault can occur.

        The Flip the Scrip/EAAA programs are shown to be extremely effective. The New England Journal of Medicine in 2015 conducted a study in Canada accessing the effectiveness of EAAA. Half of the participants were given EAAA training and the other half were part of a control group that were simply given brochures related to sexual assault prevention. They discovered that the EAAA program reduced the risk of attempted and completed rape by half up to a year after the course was taken. Additionally, Lisa Johnson Pratt, the blogger at Life After Abuse, reported that a two year follow up study was completed and the EAAA program continued to reduce completed rapes by 30% and attempted rapes by 60%. Furthermore, Kristen Grau, a writer for University Press, reported that Florida Atlantic University was the first U.S University to offer this program in 2018. In the fall semester of that same year 100 female students participated in the training, and as of 2019, none of them have reported being raped and multiple have reported using the verbal tactics in the course to prevent possible sexual assaults.
