TCNJ Tuition & Fee Reduction

TCNJ Tuition & Fee Reduction

The Issue

Dear Staff and Students of The College of New Jersey,

With a reduction in availability of housing and restrictions of campus use, Campus fees and tuition costs should be reduced. Excess fees to use the school when students are not allowed on campus should not be charged at the rate of $1360. Online learning is not on the same level as in person therefor students will be receiving a degraded quality product and should be compensated for this.

On June 26th, President Foster sent out an email explaining the schools plans to reopen in the Fall as a hybrid or "Flex" Schedule. Where students would have the opportunity to be on campus or work remotely as long as Governor Murphy allowed it, as of August 12th Murphy Signed an executive order allowing schools to open for Fall 2020.

On August 3rd, President Foster revised this plan and stated "TCNJ will offer all fall 2020 courses in remote-only mode, house only a small population of residential students on campus, and further reduce in-person, on-campus activity."

As of August 12th, there is a "Fall UG Gen Serv Fee/Capital" for $1360 and students are not able to use the school and were even forced out of on campus housing, sports, clubs, Greek life and music ensembles are not allowed to use the facilities and this fee is charged every semester.

The tuition price stayed the same as the previous year in anticipation of having a "Flex" Schedule, but now that it is completely remote it should be reduced to reflect a reasonable and fair price since remote learning is not the same as being in-person and on campus.

In conclusion, The College of New Jersey should reduce the cost of tuition and remove the "Fall UG Gen Serv Fee/Capital".

Please Sign and email President Foster with this concern.
