Ask President-Elect Trump to support all Americans

Ask President-Elect Trump to support all Americans
The Issue
Dear President-Elect Trump,
Congratulations on your win. After the campaign, it is encouraging to see you, Secretary of State Clinton, and President Obama work together agreeably to affect a successful transition of executive power. This time of transition is critical to set the table for your administration’s success as well as to ensure the ongoing domestic tranquility of our great nation.
In your acceptance speech, I and many other Americans appreciated how quickly you put the divisive, partisan language associated with the presidential campaign behind you. However, I believe that many Americans, supporters and non-supporters, have missed your message.
There are many stories in the press now suggesting that your electoral victory represents a clear call for change in Washington, D.C. I agree that it was this desire for change, and your ability to give voice to this desire, that lifted your campaign to victory and not the negativity, racism, religious discrimination, and sexism that was sometimes associated with your campaign. Unfortunately, there are a minority of Americans who now feel empowered to act otherwise.
On day 1 of your President-Elect status, in Delaware at a gas station, four Caucasian-American young males speaking about the election, jumped out of a vehicle, strongly harassed an African-American man, including showing a firearm, threatening to shoot except that “there’s witnesses.”
That same day, in San Diego, two males commented about President-Elect Trump and the Muslim community confronted a female student, grabbed her purse, backpack and store her car. There are many other stories like this playing out around the country, a day’s worth of which can be found at https://twitter.com/i/moments/796417517157830656 These stories do not represent the United States of America in which we all aspire to live, and none of us can or should tolerate these things happening at all, let alone happening in the name of the President Elect of our nation.
I believe in your sincerity to make America great for all Americans, and I believe your desire to ensure we all abide by and benefit from the rule of law. I now ask you to be clear and specific to those that would misinterpret your words or intentions.
I ask you to please state unambiguously that there is no room in our country for racism, religious discrimination, or sexism – these behaviors are unacceptable, abhorrent, and un-American. Even more, I ask that you encourage all Americans to support each other in our wonderful diversity and lead us forward as a nation.
Only together can we, in your words, Make America Great Again.
