The Re-Opening of The Jersey City NAACP Office (Branch 2086)

The Re-Opening of The Jersey City NAACP Office (Branch 2086)
The Issue
To President & C.E.O Derrick Johnson
To: State President Richard Smith
We, the undersigned members and the beloved community-at-large of the Jersey City Branch NAACP (Unit #2086) request the Re-opening of its Branch and opposes (at this time) the merging of the three (3) Branches (Jersey City, Bayonne, and Hoboken) as well as the name change.
The merger of the above mentioned Chapter would disenfranchise the legacy of Jersey City as a faithful NAACP supporter. The Jersey City Branch has a long history dating back to the Civil Rights struggle and the honorable members such as Raymond Brown Esq.
Members of the Jersey Branch has worked tirelessly over the years to fight for Justice and against racism and discriminatory practices for decades. Without the voice of a Jersey City Branch the current local economic atrocities will continue the aggressive oppression of the civil rights of African Americans…
African Americans in Jersey City has contributed significantly to the building and creation of Jersey City the second largest City in New Jersey, however failed to address recommendations of two Croson Studies.

As the Jersey City Branch began to advocate and shine light on the racism in development, construction and procurement, political interference intensified against and within our community. However this was a very small number and not worthy of disqualification as a local branch.
We Deserve a fair hearing and due process.
The history of the Jersey City Branch NAACP has always advocated for all people. Sadly to say, we have appeared to be targeted and singled out for political reasons. We demand a fair and just decision and be allowed to tell our story rather than a one sided narrative.
The Jersey city NAACP has met all annual financial obligations and have done so for years. The Freedom Fund Dinners and the MLK breakfast, has always been featured moments in the Black community of Jersey City.
We are 900+ membership strong, lifelong residents and have an investment in our community.
BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, YOU AGREE, A LOCAL BRANCH SHOULD BE IN JERSEY CITY, TO FIGHT LOCAL JERSEY CITY ISSUES.
WE ALSO, OPPOSE A NAME CHANGE OR MERGER OF BRANCHES AT THIS TIME..
WE INVITE THE NATIONAL TO JERSEY CITY FOR A DIALOGUE AND TO RUN OUR LOCAL ELECTION BUT KEEP OUR BRANCH OPEN.
