We need better on campus options for food. Currently there are low and scarce options, as well as minimal healthy alternatives for students. Our on-campus meal plan is also expensive relative to other options such as buying groceries. All freshmen who are forced to stay in dorms on campus rely on the dining halls at Texas State, as well as upperclassmen who choose to eat on campus. This can diminish the health and wellness of students, contributing to freshman fifteen, or forcing kids to not eat. Due to not having alternatives for allergies, diets, or being unaffordable, many students have no choices to fulfill their eating habits. The meal plan system basically locks students into getting food on campus, but the meal plans are so expensive that some students aren't getting what they need.  And if a student wants to get a meal on campus without a plan, they are forced to pay exorbitant prices for low quality food. Students at Texas State are affected by the low food quality and high price, especially those who are forced to rely on meal plans because of campus housing. The starting meal plan cost $1355 which is $339 per month. For this source we will use a picture in our presentation of the meal plan costs direct from Texas State.
