Medal Of Honor For Waverly B. Woodson Jr.

Medal Of Honor For Waverly B. Woodson Jr.
The Issue
Dear President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and the entire administration.
A few days ago, I read a story. This story detailed one man, a Sergeant in the 1st United States Army. This man, Waverly B. Woodson, landed on Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944, as a medic in the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion.
Even before making it to the beach, he was peppered with shrapnel, bleeding from his thigh and rear. Yet he continued on and, for 30 continuous hours, administered first aid to over 200 men on Omaha beach. He undoubtedly saved dozens, if not hundreds of lives.
We believe these actions to be worthy of the Medal of Honor. Previously, he has been shortlisted for this award, however, it was denied due to a lack of documentation, despite numerous eye witness accounts and testimonies. An investigator has also stated that racism within the US Army was "without a doubt" a leading factor as to why he did not receive the medal.
We ask you, humbly, to do what is morally right and bestow the man the medal he deserves. In doing this, you will be taking a small, although not insignificant, step towards ending racism.
