Melinda Johnson started this petition to President Alger JMU

James Madison University welcomed students back to campus for classes on August 26, 2020. Only six days later, JMU notified students that they must vacate their residence halls because of a virus they did not test for, and did not have a plan to manage.

Data suggests that the majority of current positive tests are from off-campus residents who will be unaffected by this order. JMU has made this decree without offering a plan for how students will be reimbursed or how students will be allowed to return “possibly” on October 5, 2020.  JMU is ignoring the public health risk of returning students to their home communities.

Now therefore, we the undersigned, do respectfully petition JMU to allow on-campus students to remain in residence halls and learn online until JMU manages its current outbreak.  If JMU truly has a plan for student success, it will manage on-campus student health as a component of that success.
