Preserve the 'Warriors' Nickname for Liverpool High School

Preserve the 'Warriors' Nickname for Liverpool High School
The Issue
As a proud graduate of Liverpool High School and community member of Liverpool, I am deeply concerned about the recent decision by the New York State government to force our school to change its nickname from 'Warriors'. This name has been a part of our identity for years, representing strength, resilience, and unity. It is not meant to be racist or offensive in any way.
Our community takes immense pride in being known as the Warriors. The name has become synonymous with our spirit and dedication towards education and extracurricular activities. Changing it now would mean erasing a significant part of our history.
It's important to note that many schools across America use similar nicknames without any issues. According to National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), approximately 1,200 high schools in America have 'Warriors' as their nickname.
We understand and respect the need for cultural sensitivity. However, we believe that there are other ways to promote inclusivity without stripping away traditions that hold deep meaning for students, alumni like myself, faculty members and local residents.
Therefore, we call upon all stakeholders - students past and present, parents, teachers - anyone who feels connected with Liverpool High School's Warrior spirit - to sign this petition. Let's urge NYS government officials reconsider their decision so we can continue being proud Warriors!
Regardless of the outcome this will be sent to Albany. 🤞🏻 Thank You for your time!
