Preserve the UCSC Camper Park and Protect its Residents

The Issue

On the 27th, interim Associate Vice Chancellor of housing, Dave Keller announced plans to evict 40+ residents from the UCSC Camper Park with just three weeks notice. This beloved community, which has thrived since the 1980s, is under threat due to baseless claims of health and safety concerns. The decision makers behind this eviction have remained nameless despite our inquiries.

The UCSC Camper Park isn't just a collection of trailers; it's a home for many students and staff members who have built a vibrant community over decades. This sudden displacement is not only disruptive but also indicative of administrative negligence that has been ongoing for months.

We believe that every resident deserves respect and fair treatment from their university administration. Evicting residents without substantial evidence or proper communication is an unjust act that we cannot stand by.

We urge you to join us in demanding that UC Santa Cruz halt these evictions immediately until transparent investigations into these supposed health and safety concerns are conducted. We also call on them to engage in open dialogue with residents about any future plans concerning their homes at the camper park. The University has no current plans to turn the trailer park into a more affordable housing option.
