Preserve the Title of Anesthesia Technician at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

Preserve the Title of Anesthesia Technician at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
The Issue
For countless dedicated professionals, the journey to becoming an Anesthesia Technician within the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Health System has been a cherished accomplishment. Many of us have graduated from other healthcare positions, including Perioperative Technician, to reach our current positions, involving rigorous focused specialized training in Anesthesia-related care.
Out of nowhere, with no consultation sought from the collection of Anesthesia Technicians here at OSU, there's a proposed changing of our job title to Perioperative Technician, a move we not only object to but also find misleading and inaccurate. A shift in title may seem minor, even trivial, to some. To us, however, it negates the specialized training we have undergone, the expertise we have developed, and the uniquely important role we hold within healthcare operations.
According to the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT), over 50% of Anesthesia Technicians have started in other healthcare positions, advancing their careers through ongoing education and specialized training. This amendment of naming doesn’t just impact us in Columbus, OH, but an adoption of such a decision may have a national repercussion given the reputation of the Ohio State University.
It's critical we gather support from both healthcare workers, local community members, and healthcare organizations. We must ensure that our profession - Anesthesia Technician - maintains the respect, recognition, and distinction it deserves. Let your voices be heard in this significant issue that directly affects your healthcare providers. Help us in preserving the respect for the specialized field of Anesthesia Technicians. Please, sign this petition today to stand against the change in job title at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Health System.
