My name is Ava, and I am a first year student here at Moravian University. I am part of the theater program, and it has become a home for my peers and I. It is not just an extracurricular activity, but a place where we have found comfort, friendship, and personal growth. I have only been apart of 2 productions here at Moravian, and I have been so grateful to be surrounded by such amazing and supportive peers and staff. Our Arena theater provides an outlet for many students, and has provided this safe haven since 1789. Unfortunately, our treasured theater program is under immense threat, and will be demolished this upcoming semester. 

Theater programs are vital to the development of students' creativity and critical thinking skills at all ages. According to the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE), students involved in drama performance coursework outscored non-arts students on the SAT by an average of 65 points in the verbal component. Theater arts is crucial to a well rounded education, and it is especially crucial for a liberal arts university. 

Moravian University's Arena theater program has been a beacon of culture and creativity in Bethlehem, PA. It has enriched our lives as well as those in our community who come to enjoy our performances.

We urge Moravian University administrators to consider the lively hoods of these students who will be incredibly effected by the demolishing of the Arena theater. We ask that they continue supporting arts education by preserving the theater at Moravian University. We are not asking for the Arena theater to stay, as we know this is incredibly outlandish to ask with the new renovations. However, we ask to keep the arts alive and give us a space in lieu of the Arena so we can continue to create valuable and beloved art here at Moravian University.
