Preserve the Special Education Essential Skills Program at Alexander Doniphan Elementary

The Issue

Robin is my son who has Down syndrome. He has an unhealthy obsession with cars, a great sense of humor, and he loves walking to school with his siblings. LPS recently notified us that they are planning on consolidating the special ed essential skills program to Manor Hill, eliminating the program at Alexander Doniphan. Not only does this affect our family personally, but it will also create ripple effects in the broader Liberty community. It is important for our neurotypical children to be exposed to peers with moderate to severe disabilities, as they are able to develop the ability to understand, interact, and help individuals with unique needs. This interaction plays a pivotal role in the upbringing of our future lawmakers, educators, police officers, among others, in ensuring they are well-equipped to serve all members of society, irrespective of their abilities.

Ensure that our children continue to learn this valuable lesson of inclusion and respect in their formative years by requesting that LPS District maintain the special education program at Alexander Doniphan Elementary. Let's stand together to show that all children are deserving of an appropriate and inclusive education environment. Please sign this petition and send a clear message to the LPS District.
